iPhone – an Internet-enabled multimedia mobile phone that offer services like Internet services including e-mail, web browsing, and local Wi-Fi connectivity— appears to have already had a large effects on the mobile phone industry, with many showing off iPhone clones.
The growth in use of cell phones is dramatic. The worldwide mobile phone industry will be worth US$1 trillion by the close of 2008, a new report from Portio Research confidently predicts. In the report, the astounding statistics reveals the mobile phones industry is at the top of the pecking order in terms of sustained growth, surpassing other market sectors such as IT and Pharmaceuticals.
A spokesperson for the London-based company, known simply as 3, said it and a "leading Internet communications company are working together to produce an exciting new product to make free Internet calls completely mobile." The unnamed company is widely believed to be Skype.
3 is not releasing further details on the product.
According to some reports, 3 and Skype will team with an Asian manufacturer to produce a low-cost mobile device that will work with the service.
